MEDIA RELEASE

MAKE LIFE SWEETER FOR SPCA ANIMALS

Calling all Kiwi cooks for Cupcake Day

There’s a lot to love about baking – the chance to get creative, delicious smells wafting from the oven, showing off the finished masterpiece … and of course the taste-testing!   Combine these with New Zealand’s genuine love for animals in need and you have a very sweet recipe.

Follow this recipe and share your delicious baked treats with everyone this August 27.

Register to be a ‘Cupcake Cook’ for the annual SPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser where you bake, sell, and raise much-needed money for the SPCA and the animals in its care.  This year will mark the 4th anniversary of SPCA Cupcake Day and is expected to be another sweet success. Over $220,000 was raised last year for SPCA centres nationwide, leaving a lot of satisfied tummies, and equally happy animals. SPCA’s National Chief Executive Robyn Kippenberger can’t thank the public enough.

“Over 60,000 animals come through our 47 Centres’ doors each year, some in desperate need of medical attention and all requiring a huge amount of time, love and care – which ultimately costs a lot of money.

“SPCA Cupcake Day is a great way for the public to get involved in a tasty campaign that not only raises much-needed money and awareness, but also brings together New Zealand communities.”

The SPCA recommends Cupcake Cooks use SPCA Blue Tick eggs in their cupcakes.  These cage-free eggs come from hens that are farmed humanely – happy hens make happy eggs!

Cupcake Day website goes live on 22nd June, when keen bakers can start registering.

Simply log on to www.spcacupcakeday.co.nz [GOING LIVE SOME TIME JUNE 22ND] to register as a Cupcake Cook, download your ’Cupcake Kit’, and get inspired.

There’s a baker inside everyone, so get involved and help support a great cause – your friends, customers, school or workplace – and the animals of NZ will love you for it.
