Pink Shirt Day inspires year 12 poet
Pink Shirt Day is today and Mary Natta, a year 12 poet and student at Hornby High School in Christchurch has been inspired by the message behind the national campaign against bullying. Mary has written a poem, called Stronger which is featured below
STRONGER
By Mary
They say that what doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger
But how can you be strong when you’ve been brought down so many times?
You can only be as strong as you can be with the support of others
People are bullied for so many reasons but more than most, for their clothing
We are all outsiders and we wish to feel a part of something bigger than ourselves
But that doesn’t mean being bigger than other people that are your peers
I say, be strong, kia kaha, and hold your head high
For you will overcome this over-whelming emotion that bring you fear and doubt
You are loved, and with that, you will go far
Don’t forget the past but look forward to the future, it will welcome you
It is true, what they say, that what doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger
Don’t underestimate that privilege that you have
You are
STRONG
Give yourself wings and soar into the world standing strong
No one can hurt you
Mary Natta
