I have a ‘thing’ for green design.  I also have a ‘thing’ for getting back to nature.  And then there’s my optimism.  This is why I fell in love with the series ‘Kevin McCloud’s man made home’ on TV 3 (here in Kiwi Land).

Last year, Kevin McCloud (who you may recognise from ‘Grand Designs’ , which I also love) took time out from following other people’s grand designs and decided to build himself his very own cabin in the woods to see if a slower life of making and doing, rather than buying and consuming could make him happier. So his wooden cabin was built off-grid, from locally available resources and from other people’s junk.

He takes his mission very seriously and reminds me of an artist at work.  This isn’t all about building, Kevin also makes his own soap and toothpaste out of fishy products.  Yuck.  He explores may aspects of ‘back to basics’ and even showers beneath a waterfall.  He is intrigued and engrossed with his back-to-basic projects and he leads a merry team of men down his lovely garden shed path in this series.

Watch the series here.
