Kiwis swap cans of food for favorite movies across country

Media Release

The 20th Annual Wattie’s Cans Film Festival Line-up Announced

Event:                  Wattie’s Cans Film Festival

When:                  Wednesday 13 November

Where:                Reading Cinemas, Hoyts Cinemas, EVENT Cinemas and independent cinemas across New Zealand

The Wattie’s Cans Film Festival is back for the twentieth year and this year’s line-up includes some of the most popular films of 2013, from the documentary on pop sensation One Direction, to the story of the high-flying air racer, Planes.

On the night of Wednesday 13 November, Kiwis across the country who have swapped cans of food for movie tickets at participating cinemas, will enjoy a wide range of blockbuster films.

Other films on offer this year include Turbo – the tale of an unlikely snail; Smurfs 2 – the second nostalgic instalment on the loveable blue cartoon characters and the successful computer animated sequel Despicable Me 2.

The Wattie’s Cans Film Festival, now in its 20th year, provides essential support to the Salvation Army in stocking up their food banks for the busy Christmas period. For every can donated, Wattie’s will donate one can of their own to help ensure The Salvation Army have the supplies they need to support Kiwis in need this Christmas.

Shane Chisholm, Territorial Public Relations Director for The Salvation Army says “We are proud of our longstanding 20 year association with Wattie’s. The support we receive from The Wattie’s Cans Film Festival is outstanding and we are very grateful to Wattie’s and the NZ public. It is fantastic to see so many Kiwi families having a great night out at the movies for the price of a can of food per movie ticket.”

Once again, Reading Cinemas, Hoyts Cinemas, and EVENT Cinemas are generously offering their theatres for the Festival night, 13th November, along with independent cinemas, at approximately 40 locations across the country.

Cans of food can be exchanged for Festival night tickets at participating cinemas from Wednesday 6th November right up to the Festival night.
