Olympic Kiwi silver medalist Sarah Walker is a big believer in positive psychology. She spoke to herself on the mirror for months before the Olympics. Though it felt weird at first, it paid off.

“Being able to say ‘I can win gold’ was really hard  So my homework was to look in the mirror and say ‘I can win gold’ for as long as it took.”

According to Wikipedia Sarah won silver in the Women’s BMX at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

She was born in Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty, and grew up in nearby Kawerau.  She is of Maori decsent.

She said cyclist Sarah Ulmer inspired her to go for the Olympics.

“I think it’s important to have someone that inspires you that is, I guess, within reach.”
